THE PROPERTY

Standing proudly above the village of La Verdière, Château de La Verdière is an extraordinary piece of Provençal heritage and the largest privately-owned Château in Provence.

Dating back to 980, the château has evolved through more than a thousand years of history and three of Provence's great families: the Castellane, Vintimille and Forbin. From its medieval origins as a fortress to its transformation into an elegant 18th-century residence, every part of the property reflects a different chapter of its remarkable past.

Its present appearance owes much to Louis-Roch de Forbin d'Oppède, who spent seventeen years transforming the Château into one of the region's most refined residences. Grand reception rooms, a ballroom of more than 30 metres, a library, archive rooms and spectacular terraces are enhanced by extraordinary Provençal gypsum plasterwork, considered among the finest in France.

Fully classified as a Historical Monument since 1986, the Château has undergone an extensive seven-year restoration programme carried out in collaboration with the French Historic Monuments authorities.

Today, approximately 5,000 m² of living space unfolds across five levels, with around one hundred rooms including 25 bedrooms and suites, each with its own bathroom.

Surrounding the château, approximately 16 hectares of fully enclosed grounds create a world of complete privacy.

The estate combines formal French gardens with an olive grove, landscaped grounds, ornamental ponds and two swimming pools. Equestrian facilities include stables and a dressage arena, while additional buildings provide staff accommodation and further possibilities for the future owner.
